Feminism Means Equality, Even For The Bad Stuff
If you've ever heard someone tell you that feminism means women being the superior gender, you were hearing absolute bullshit.
The term feminism gets thrown around so often nowadays, and unfortunately, there are still so many misconceptions about what the word means. Everything from taking over the world, to killing men and worship of the devil have all been extreme scenarios from those claiming to know what feminism is.
A REAL FEMINIST will tell you that it's quite the opposite. Feminism means that women are on the same playing field as men; if we can do the same job a man can do for example, then employers should pay up equally. Feminism means being able to have a family AND run your own business if you want. Feminism means walking down the street at night and not having to look behind you in fear. Feminism means that you can have all the male friends you want and not be called a ho behind your back. Feminism means ALL OF THIS.
As horrific as it is to hear the outlandish fallacies surrounding what feminism is, it's equally as horrifying to hear others claim that perhaps women indeed ARE a superior race. That's not any better, so let's get to the story here.
A few days ago, Michael Moore took to social media in an attempt to praise the opposite sex. While we appreciate the offer, we're going to kindly decline the attempt. Mostly because, well, it isn't true.
And on social media, we all have a voice. Jessica Ellis wanted to use that voice. Behind Moore's tweet is a photo of Elizabeth Graves; her work on the Manhattan Project was pivotal in the development of nuclear weapons. Jessica went on to show us more examples of just how terrible women can be.
Pictured below is Mary Walton. She patented two smoke stacks.
Let's not forget Ilse Koch, who was a commandant of Buchenwald. You know, like during that whole Holocaust thing.
And right below her is Ceri Powell, who just so happens to be the head of global exploration for Shell. So helping melt polar ice caps is kinda her thing.
Oh! By the way, in case you forgot, BRENDA SPENCER was the first modern school shooter; she didn't like Mondays.
Basically, women are as culpable as men when it comes to fucked up shit. Now, it's not fun to look back at our history as human beings and discover these atrocities. But here's why these women are important.
When we are taught that women are pure creatures full of benevolence, we further the concept that we can be violated and corrupted. But the truth is, we are as equal in men when it comes to dilemmas of ethics and morality. It's dangerous to suggest that a woman cannot feel frustrated, stressed, or just feisty.
So in a twisted way, feminism is equally as important for all the bad women out there, not just the badass ones. We are no better, no worse, we are equal.
