Spotify Celebrates Women's History Month With Launch of 'Amplify'

What greater gift than the gift of music?

The popular streaming service, Spotify is celebrating Women's History Month with the launch of Amplify, a hub created as a spotlight for causes and community voices. Spotify decided to kick it off on International Women's day (March 8th). Throughout the year, Amplify--only available to users in the US and Canada--will shed light on various social causes, including: gender equality, mental health and self-care, immigration, and LGBTQ rights.

The platform will feature related podcasts and playlists for each cause and a dedicated playlist that will be updates every week. This month's is entitled "Amplify: Women of the World." You can also enjoy playlists such as: "Women of Indie," "Women of Hip-Hop," "Women of R&B," and "Women of Comedy."

There are also sections on the Amplify homepage that highlight categories such as "Movements on the Rise" and "Icons and Influencers,' among other playlists for some of the biggest female leaders in music.

Recognizing the surge of Latin music streams around the world, Spotify also launched a Women of Latin initiative. The streaming platform decided to mark the feature with an exclusive interview with Demi Lovato. The 25-year-old singer-songwriter even released a Spanish version of her hit "Tell Me You Love Me." Both the interview and song premiered exclusively on the "¡Viva Latino!" on International Women's Day.

The pop icon took to Instagram to share the news herself.

"Our world is inspiring people to speak up about the things they believe in, to make a difference, to make a change," Lovato told Spotify during the interview. She went on saying, "And one of the things that people are speaking out against is women's rights, women hold so much power, so much strength, we really need to embrace that as a society and all genders."

The Latin hub will now feature "¡Viva Latinas!," which consists of all-Latina-led playlists and even offers a special edition "Latin Divas" playlist. Female artists from all over Latin America, the US Latin community, and Spain are highlighted on the Amplify homepage this month.

The 21-year-old Latin pop singer, Becky G, shared her thoughts on being featured on the ¡Viva Latino! playlist, "I take pride in being an empowered, young Latina who works hard to honor other strong women around me, and all over the world, not just today, but everyday."

I love learning about major platforms doing something for the greater good. Needless to say, I'm all here for this movement, creation--what ever you wanna call it--by Spotify. Now, I'm tuning out to listen to these awesome playlists curated in honor of Women's History Month. Oh, and you should stream a playlist or two, as well. Here are a few to get you started.
