October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast Cancer Awareness Month October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
I’ve been repping pink all month long to show support for all the fighters, survivors and those affected by this awful disease. This topic is near and dear to my heart as my mom and mother-in-law are breast cancer survivors. My mom had stage 5 invasive breast cancer which led to a double mastectomy. Thankfully, she has been in remission for a decade. Simply put, she’s one of the strongest women I know.
This was a huge scare for my family and I. Changed our lives forever. Now, I feel one of my purposes is to educate women on the importance of getting mammograms and doing self-breast exams at home. My mom and millions of other women would not have caught their cancer in a reasonable amount of time without taking their mammograms seriously. The American Cancer Society recommends getting mammograms starting at age 40. I’m no Doctor but you’re never too young to ask for one since breast cancer can happen at any age.
According to The National Breast Cancer Foundation:
* One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. * Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.
* Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women.
* Over 3.3 million breast cancer survivors are alive in the United States today.
Stay informed sisters, especially when it comes to your health.
