2018 Midterm Elections Are A Huge Win For Women

Who run Congress? Girls! The 2018 midterm elections marks one of the most progressive wins for women in our nation's history. 123 women will have seats in Congress, breaking the 112 count currently.

Rashida Tlaib, Michigan Democrat and Ilhan Omar of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, will become the first Muslim women in Congress, CNN reports. Ayanna Pressley has become Massachusetts' first black woman elected to the US House of Representatives, The Guardian reports. Michelle Lujan Grisham is the first Democratic Latina elected as a governor, Republican Marsha Blackburn the first female senator from Tennessee, Jennifer Wexton in Northern Virginia elected to U.S House of Representative and Republican Kristi Noem wins the South Dakota governor's race becoming the first woman elected to the office in the state's history. Democrats Sharice Davids and Deb Haaland will become the first Native American women elected to Congress, CNN confirms.

In total there are 40 women of color who are headed to the house; 33 congressional races featured two women facing off against each other, says the Center for American Women and Politics. Not only are more women registered to vote but we are breaking down the walls of gender inequality by taking command in our government. No matter what your political views might be, we demonstrated the strength in female empowerment during a time when we must unite and have a say in the direction of this country.

Wear your heels tall and your highlight bright ladies, we have once again broken records in United States history and inspired the world to scream freedom!
